Headteacher’s welcome
Sir Bernard Lovell Academy is an oversubscribed and thriving 11-18 co-educational school, serving the communities between Bristol and Bath and those of South Gloucestershire. We are fortunate to be a member of the Futura Learning Partnership, a family of 27 primary and secondary schools in the south-west that benefit from close collaboration and shared values, while retaining their individual ethos and identity.
Our aim at SBL is to provide an exceptional education which inspires, challenges and supports all of our students so that they lead happy, fulfilled and successful lives at school and beyond.
We set the bar high in terms of our expectations of student attendance, behaviour and academic achievement but ensure that our young people are given all of the support they need to reach those ambitious standards. Our expert and dedicated staff are committed to delivering inspirational teaching and learning which develop active, curious and creative minds. Equal value is given to nurturing our young people’s confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing through our house system which provides first class pastoral care and personal development. We foster gifts, talents and interests in all their forms, both in the classroom and through our wide ranging extra-curricular opportunities which develop the broader skills and memories that stay with young people long after their time at SBL. Put simply, only the best is good enough for and from our students.
As a result, students at SBL make excellent progress, significantly above the county and national average. This enables our young people to leave school with the qualifications, skills and strength of character which open doors to their future success.
